
Getting Your PET Blow Molding Heat Just Right
If you’re running Sidel Matrix B2B or Krones Contiform lines, you know the struggle. Getting those preform temperatures consistent is a balancing act. You need precise IR radiation, but when the OEM lamp prices start climbing, it feels like you’re paying a premium just to keep the lights on. The goal is simple: find a replacement that hits the same wattage and spectral output so your blow cycle doesn’t skip a beat. The nitty-gritty on power These are short-wave infrared emitters. When we spec these tubes, we make sure they match your oven’s power supply exactly. Why? Because if the voltage is off, you’re looking at two bad options: the lamps burn out way too fast, or they just don’t get the plastic hot enough. And if you’re pushing high speeds, you can’t afford “cold spots.” If the heat isn’t uniform across the tube, you’ll end up with bottles that have weird wall thickness. Not a good look. Built to take the heat We use heavy-wall quartz glass here. It has to be tough to handle the thermal shock of rapid cycling without cracking. Most of these use R7s or Sk15 connectors. They’re basically plug-and-play. You can swap them out during your scheduled downtime without having to mess around with the oven’s wiring. Some of our versions even have a special coating that bounces the heat back toward the preform and away from the machine frame. It keeps the oven housing from getting scorching hot. Making it work in your shop These are direct drop-in replacements. You get the same thermal footprint as the expensive OEM parts, but your cost per hour of operation goes down. But here’s a tip: if you decide to push higher wattages to speed up your throughput, keep an eye on your cooling fans. More heat means more stress on your ventilation. If the air isn’t moving, your lamps will die early, no matter who made them. One last thing—don’t just replace one lamp. Swap them out in matched sets across the whole zone. It’s the only way to make sure your preforms heat up evenly every single time.
