
How to actually speed up your baking line
If you’re trying to squeeze more parts-per-minute out of your line, you’ve probably realized the bottleneck is almost always the heat. Standard convection ovens are slow because they have to heat the air first. It’s like trying to warm up a room with a fan—it takes forever. We do things differently. We use quartz infrared (IR) tubes to skip the air entirely and hit the product directly with radiant energy. The secret is the response time. Quartz tubes heat up almost instantly. Metal elements have to “soak” in heat before they start doing any real work, but quartz lamps hit full power in a few seconds. This lets you tighten your timing cycles. Because we can pack a ton of wattage into a tiny space, the heat hits the product surface much harder. The result? You can crank up the conveyor belt speed without worrying about a raw, under-baked core. Getting the gear right We use high-purity fused quartz so the tubes don’t shatter when the temperature swings. But you have to pick the right type for your specific product. Clear quartz is great for deep penetration. If you need a surface sear, coated tubes are the way to go. One thing to watch out for:**voltage drops.**These tubes pull a lot of current. If your wiring isn’t up to the task, you’ll deal with flickering or terminals that burn out way too early. To stop that, we use reinforced end-caps so the tubes don’t crack while the line is vibrating. Making it work on the floor Getting these into your line is usually a simple swap if you’re replacing old calrod heaters. You’ll notice your heating zone gets smaller and your cycles get faster. Just a heads-up: IR heat is intense. If your belt speed isn’t perfectly synced with the lamp wattage, you’re going to scorch your product. You’ll want a precise PID controller to dial in the power and keep everything from burning.
