Ever stepped into a cold bathroom and wished for instant heat? That’s where short-wave infrared lamps come in. They’re great because they warm you up the second you turn them on. But there’s a catch. If you just crank up the power to get more heat, you end up with a light so bright it feels like staring into the sun. That’s a huge problem, especially if you’ve got kids or babies around. Nobody wants that kind of glare in their eyes during a bath. The trick to fixing the glare To stop the blinding light, we use a special coating on the quartz glass. Think of it like a pair of sunglasses for the lamp. It blocks out the harsh, bright light but lets the heat pass right through. Instead of a piercing white light, you get a soft, warm glow. To play it safe, leave at least 20cm of space between the lamp and the ceiling. It keeps your house safe and the lamp breathing. The trade-off Now, being honest—those coatings do eat a tiny bit of the energy. You lose a small percentage of efficiency because some of the light is being blocked. But let’s be real. A 2% drop in efficiency is a tiny price to pay to make sure you aren’t blinding your family. If the heat still feels a bit too intense, just toss in a dimmer switch.
